HOUSTON — A Houston METRO bus was involved in a major crash near Midtown on Saturday afternoon, leaving the vehicle partially rolled over and causing traffic delays.

The crash occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. on McGowen Street at the State Highway 288 overpass. Investigators said the Route 54 bus was struck from behind by another vehicle, causing it to leave the bridge.

Houston TranStar cameras showed the bus resting at an angle on the embankment near the intersection of Hamilton and McGowen streets.

METRO confirmed that 13 passengers were transported to a hospital for evaluation. The bus operator reported no injuries. The driver of the striking vehicle was also hospitalized and is listed in critical but stable condition. All other reported injuries are considered minor.

Environmental Health and Safety teams were on scene to assess and contain any potential fluid spills.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing and traffic disruptions are expected to continue in the area. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.
