WASHINGTON — Meta announced Friday that it will incorporate content from major news organizations into its artificial intelligence assistant, allowing users on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to access real-time information.
The company said the updated Meta AI will answer news-related queries with breaking news, entertainment, and lifestyle stories sourced from participating media outlets. CNN and Fox News were cited as initial partners providing content to the AI assistant.
Users will access the AI-powered news responses directly within Meta’s social platforms by typing queries into designated AI fields or chat interfaces. Meta stated that the integration will continuously update answers as news organizations publish new stories.
Participating outlets will supply content feeds or interfaces enabling Meta AI to pull headlines, article excerpts, and related information in real time. Meta said all information will be displayed in text form and attributed to the originating news organizations.
The company reported that the expanded news capabilities will roll out to users in phases and that features may be adjusted based on technical performance and user feedback.
