ARLINGTON, Texas — Lionel Messi scored another World Cup goal Saturday as Argentina defeated Jordan 3-1 before a sellout crowd of 70,649 at Dallas Stadium in Arlington to finish the group stage undefeated.
Messi became the first player to score in seven consecutive FIFA World Cup matches. He also extended his all-time World Cup scoring record to 19 goals.
Fans from around the world filled every seat at the stadium and traveled across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to watch Argentina close out the group stage.
Argentina’s victory secured a strong finish to the group stage as the defending champion advanced to the knockout rounds.
