Meow Wolf Houston has enhanced its already immersive art experience by adding a vibrant series of new murals outside its building, offering visitors an engaging introduction before they even enter. Curated by local artist and Meow Wolf liaison GONZO247, the murals, located on the exterior walls of the former sheet metal factory in the Fifth Ward, celebrate Houston’s cultural and industrial heritage.

GONZO247 emphasizes the importance of maintaining a strong H-Town identity, stating, “These murals serve as Houston’s welcome mat to Meow Wolf, showcasing the creative energy unique to this city.” The artwork features contributions from several Houston artists, each bringing a distinct element to the project.

Lee Washington’s murals incorporate reflective chrome features that catch the Houston sun, contrasting with more organic elements, while El Franco Lee II’s work highlights the city’s musical influences, celebrating Houston’s slab culture and the legacy of DJ Screw. Jasmine Zelaya expands her Flower Face Vessel motif from inside Meow Wolf, and Ana María Ortiz (Ana Marietta) presents a piece called Light, depicting a mystical human/sea creature hybrid that aligns with the fantastical ambiance of Meow Wolf’s Radio Tave installation.

Since its 2024 opening, Meow Wolf has attracted thousands of visitors, blending elements of art galleries, dive bars, and sideshow attractions to create a distinctive experience deeply rooted in Houston’s cultural landscape. The murals represent the first major addition to the site, with General Manager Aaron Johnson affirming, “These murals signal that Meow Wolf Houston will never remain static.”
