SAN ANTONIO — Officials on Friday celebrated the completion of the Alamo Promenade, a revitalized walkway stretching from East Commerce Street to the Alamo chapel, as part of the ongoing $550 million Alamo Plan.

Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones and Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick joined the ribbon-cutting ceremony, highlighting the promenade adorned with statues of Sam Houston, Jose Antonio Navarro, and other figures from the Texas Revolution.

The promenade is designed to prioritize pedestrians and enhance visitor experience, a significant shift from a decade ago when cars could pass close to the historic church.

The Alamo Plan, approved by City Council in 2017, aims for completion in 2027 and includes a new museum and visitor center housed in the Crockett and Woolworth buildings, featuring galleries, a 4-D theater, and expanded interpretive exhibits.

Newly installed Alamo Trust CEO Hope Andrade said the project remains “on time and on budget” and seeks to elevate the site to world-class standards while preserving its historical significance.

Jones emphasized including diverse cultural perspectives in the Alamo narrative, while Patrick touted the site as a future top U.S. historical attraction.
