Matt Thomas, former WFAA journalist, dead at 41

A respected journalist and radio anchor in Houston has passed away at the age of 41. His death was confirmed by Houston Public Media on Wednesday, following a brief illness.

With a career spanning over two decades, Matt Thomas was known for his work as a midday anchor at News 88.7.

He had previously made significant contributions to broadcast news in Dallas before joining Houston Public Media, where he became a trusted voice during major events such as hurricanes and elections.

Throughout his career, the journalist received numerous awards for his reporting. He was also recognized for mentoring aspiring journalists, offering guidance and support to many in the field.

Houston Public Media plans to honor his legacy in the coming weeks.
