MANILA, Philippines — The Senate will invite House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Representative Zaldy Co to testify in an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption involving flood control projects, Senator Ping Lacson announced Tuesday.

The Senate initiated the probe to examine possible irregularities and mismanagement in the implementation and funding of flood control initiatives. The investigation aims to determine whether public funds were used properly and to identify any lapses in project execution.

Romualdez is a key political figure, while Co has been identified as a stakeholder in the projects under review. Both have not yet responded to the announcement of their impending invitations.

“The invitation is part of the Senate’s effort to address concerns raised about the integrity of these projects,” Lacson said.

The Senate committee handling the inquiry will set a schedule for the hearings and will accommodate the testimonies of both Romualdez and Co. Authorities involved in the investigation are preparing documents and evidence relevant to the questioning.

The probe will assess the contracts, bidding processes, financial management, and timelines of the projects. It is expected to result in policy recommendations or further actions if malpractice is confirmed.

Previous reports have cited potential misuse of funds in flood control programs, prompting calls for greater oversight. The Senate’s investigation forms part of a broader initiative to ensure transparency and accountability in public infrastructure spending.

Officials emphasize the importance of full cooperation from those involved and have called for public engagement in the process.
