MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday pledged to exert his full effort in the final three years of his term, emphasizing the importance of translating economic gains into real improvements in the lives of Filipinos during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa.
Marcos cited strong economic indicators such as rising employment, declining inflation, and increased business confidence, describing the country’s current economic position as favorable.
“If we base it on data, our economy is doing well, confidence level of businessmen is high. Employment went up and inflation went down,” he said in Filipino.
Despite these positive figures, Marcos stressed that statistics are “merely decorative” and “meaningless” if citizens continue to face daily hardships. He called on his administration to ensure that economic growth results in tangible improvements for ordinary Filipinos.
The President outlined initiatives focused on inclusive development, poverty reduction, and equitable access to services. He urged all sectors—government, private sector, and the public—to work together in sustaining growth and addressing disparities that hinder national progress.
“We must make sure no Filipino is left behind,” Marcos said, highlighting the need for cooperation to overcome challenges in infrastructure and social services.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering projects that support national development and social equity. Marcos also encouraged citizens to remain engaged in the democratic process and to hold public officials accountable.
The address, attended by lawmakers, government officials, and members of the diplomatic community, served as a platform for the President to report on the nation’s status and outline key policy directions.
Economic analysts and business leaders monitored the speech closely for insights into the administration’s priorities as it enters the second half of its term. Marcos’s presidency is set to end in 2028, marking what he described as a critical period to fulfill his commitments.
The President concluded his speech with optimism, affirming his dedication to public service and the Filipino people.
