MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed into law on May 9, an amendment to the “Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act,” formally revising Republic Act (RA) 11235.
The newly amended law, now known as RA 12209, mandates motorcycle owners to register their vehicles with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) within five days of acquiring ownership.
The law also introduces a requirement for owners to report the sale or disposition of a motorcycle, either in person or through the LTO’s online platform.
The amendment aims to tighten regulations related to motorcycle ownership and transactions, in response to concerns over motorcycle-related crimes.
The updated provisions establish clearer procedures and timelines for registration and transfer reporting to ensure legal compliance and improve law enforcement tracking.
The law emphasizes the responsibility of motorcycle owners to follow proper registration and reporting protocols to promote accountability and prevent the misuse of unregistered motorcycles.
