Marcos honors Enrile, says his death ends a historic era

MANILA, Philippines– President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that the death of Juan Ponce Enrile marks the end of an important chapter in the history of the Philippines.

Enrile, a veteran politician and chief presidential legal counsel to Marcos Jr., died at 101 due to pneumonia.

Marcos Jr. acknowledged Enrile’s long government service and his influence on law and governance in the country.

Enrile began his political career under President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., serving as defense minister during the Martial Law period. He later became one of the central figures in the events leading to the 1986 People Power Revolution.

After years in public office, Enrile returned to government under Marcos Jr., continuing his work as legal counsel.

Marcos Jr. noted that Enrile’s contributions to public policy and government institutions remain significant.

Enrile’s political life spanned several administrations, where he held positions such as senator, defense minister, and presidential legal adviser.

He was known for his role in major national decisions and for his involvement in shaping the country’s political system.
