MANILA, Philippines– President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered government agencies to reduce construction costs for infrastructure projects such as classrooms, hospitals, and farm-to-market roads.

The directive, issued on October 30, seeks to curb corruption, promote transparency, and ensure efficient use of public funds.

Marcos directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and other concerned agencies to lead a comprehensive review and audit of existing infrastructure plans. The goal is to lower costs by up to 50 percent without compromising quality or safety.

The President emphasized that infrastructure development remains a key driver of national progress, but it must be carried out with accountability and cost-effectiveness.

He also instructed agencies to submit regular progress reports and coordinate with local government units to ensure consistent implementation across regions.

The initiative covers various public works, including irrigation systems and farm-to-market roads, and aims for full implementation by 2026.

Marcos said the cost-reduction measures will allow the government to build more facilities while maintaining high standards and avoiding waste or misuse of resources.
