MANILA, Philippines– President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has announced that the government is considering declaring a national food emergency to address the rising cost of rice.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is expected to make the declaration within the coming week.

The move aims to lower rice prices and stabilize the market, ensuring that rice remains affordable and accessible to the Filipino population.

The announcement comes as food prices, particularly rice, have become a major concern for the public.

As rice is a staple in Filipino diets, its increasing cost has prompted widespread pressure on the government to take action.

Marcos emphasized the urgency of the situation, suggesting that emergency measures could compel a reduction in prices.

The department is expected to carry out a comprehensive strategy to address both short-term and long-term goals for food security in the country.

The strategy will include efforts to ensure the continued affordability and availability of rice for all Filipinos.
