President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed his emotions, becoming teary-eyed while discussing the difficulties faced by Filipinos.
During a segment of his podcast released on Saturday evening, journalist Vicky Morales asked Marcos if he was getting emotional during their conversation.
Marcos responded, “Yes, because I’m very upset.”
He explained, “I see people struggling. And they don’t deserve it.”
Marcos stressed that these Filipinos, who are experiencing hardship, have done nothing to merit suffering while others grow wealthier.
“If they were bad people, they should be punished. But they’re not. They’re just working and loving their families,” Marcos remarked in Filipino.
“Why would you make them suffer just to get rich? That makes no sense to me,” he added.
The video did not specify the topic prompting Marcos’ remarks on Filipino hardships. Meanwhile, the government is investigating alleged irregularities in the country’s flood control projects, with two projects confirmed as “ghost” projects.
This investigation follows Marcos’ revelation that about 20 percent of the P545-billion budget for flood mitigation was awarded to only 15 contractors.
