MANILA, Philippines– President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla as the new Ombudsman of the Philippines on Oct. 7.
Remulla succeeds former Ombudsman Samuel Martires, whose term ended on July 27, 2025.
The Presidential Communications Office confirmed the appointment in an announcement on October 7, 2025.
Remulla entered the selection process after being shortlisted by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).
He said he will uphold justice and transparency in his new role.
The Office of the Ombudsman investigates and prosecutes government officials accused of corruption, misconduct, and other abuses of public office.
The JBC cited Remulla’s experience in the Department of Justice as a key factor in his qualification.
President Marcos emphasized the need for a strong, independent Ombudsman to enforce accountability across government.
Remulla will serve a nonrenewable term of seven years under the Constitution.
