A man questioned in connection with a fatal shooting during a protest in Utah has been released from custody, Dallas police confirmed.

Arturo Gamboa was detained and interviewed following an incident at the “No Kings” rally, a demonstration against perceived government oppression.

Although he displayed a rifle at the event, authorities say he did not fire the weapon. The presence of the firearm reportedly prompted an armed safety volunteer to open fire, resulting in the accidental death of protester Arthur Folasa Ah Loo.

Gamboa’s role in the incident remains under review by the Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office, which has not yet filed charges. His release came with undisclosed conditions aimed at ensuring compliance with the ongoing investigation.

Gamboa’s father publicly defended his son, describing him as an “innocent person caught in a complex situation.” The protest, which focused on individual liberties and government accountability, attracted significant attention due to its deadly outcome.

Law enforcement officials continue to seek information from witnesses and urge members of the public with relevant details to come forward. Authorities have not indicated a timeline for the conclusion of the investigation.
