KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia– A bus transporting university students crashed into a minivan in northern Malaysia on Monday, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 individuals, according to police and rescue services.
The incident occurred near the town of Gerik on the East-West Highway close to the Thai border.
Thirteen victims lost their lives at the accident scene, while two others died in the hospital.
This accident is noted as the deadliest in more than a decade on Malaysia’s hazardous roads.
The collision occurred as students were returning to school following an Islamic public holiday observed over the weekend.
Perak State Police reported that the bus appeared to have lost control before striking the minivan from behind.
