LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas — A judge set a $3 million bond for Jessica Quintana, 39, after prosecutors filed charges connected to an alleged attempt to drown her three children.
Quintana faces two counts of injury to a child causing bodily injury and one count of assault causing bodily injury. The offenses fall under first-degree felonies, with a $1 million bond assigned to each count.
Deputies from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office located Quintana and the children at a pond on the 9100 block of FM 1008 in Dayton on September 29. The children include two girls, ages 15 and 11, and a 6-year-old boy. One child was unresponsive when officers arrived. First responders performed lifesaving measures and transported the children to hospitals.
Capt. David Meyers stated that investigators believe Quintana intended for the children not to survive. The investigation remains open. Detectives are waiting for medical records and toxicology reports to determine whether substances, including NyQuil or alcohol, were factors.
A press conference with the Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office is scheduled at the courthouse. Click2Houston.com will carry the briefing live.
Domingo Quintana, Jessica’s husband, contacted 911 and claimed his wife mixed NyQuil with vodka before attempting to drown the children. Investigators later determined no alcohol was involved. Domingo Quintana now faces a separate animal cruelty case after deputies found a cat in unsafe conditions inside the residence. A judge granted a $5,000 bond for that case.
In a separate development, Liberty Police Lt. Ramiro Lozano was placed on suspension pending an internal review. The inquiry focuses on access granted to Domingo Quintana following his arrest. Officials stated Lozano picked up Domingo from jail and requested to speak with him before release. The review seeks to identify who granted authorization.
Jessica Quintana remained under medical care after the incident and underwent a mental health assessment. Charges were filed after her discharge from the hospital.
Child Protective Services currently maintains custody of the children. The investigation continues.
