HOUSTON, Texas– A grand jury in Liberty County, Texas, indicted Commissioner David Whitmire on charges of sexual assault and official oppression on April 23.
David Whitmire, a 62-year-old Republican, represents Precinct 3. The alleged offenses took place in December 2024.
The indictment lists multiple charges against Whitmire, including solicitation of prostitution. Court documents allege that Whitmire offered money and assistance with child custody in exchange for sexual favors.
The charges have prompted Whitmire to turn himself in to the authorities at the Liberty County Jail. He remains in custody while awaiting further proceedings.
Liberty County District Attorney, Logan Pickett, presented the evidence to the grand jury, which led to the indictment. The charges include two counts of official oppression, a third-degree felony, and one count of sexual assault, a second-degree felony.
The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office and the Liberty County District Attorney’s Office are jointly investigating the case. They have encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward.
Whitmire’s attorney, Tony Smith, has stated that they are reviewing the charges and preparing a defense. Smith has urged the public to withhold judgment until all facts emerge in court.
