Leander Independent School District in Austin, Texas, has reinstated 36 of 40 books previously removed from classrooms after reviewing them for compliance with Texas Senate Bill 12.

The district temporarily pulled the books to ensure they met the new law’s standards on diversity, inclusion, and topics related to gender identity and sexual orientation. Following the review, officials approved most of the titles for classroom use with minor curriculum adjustments.

Four books remain under review as the district continues to address concerns identified during the evaluation process.

Leander ISD emphasized its commitment to maintaining diverse and inclusive educational materials while meeting state regulations. District officials stated that the reinstatement aims to balance educational diversity with legislative compliance.

The review process reflects the district’s effort to align its instructional resources with Senate Bill 12 and ensure students have access to varied learning materials.
