Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson announced that four individuals implicated in a flood control projects scandal could remain in Senate detention for as long as three years.
The group includes private contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya and three former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineers — Henry Alcantara, Brice Hernandez, and Jaypee Mendoza.
The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee cited the four for contempt after they allegedly provided false testimonies during committee hearings.
Lacson explained that detention could last until the sine die adjournment of Congress, which may extend up to three years. He added that the Senate could consider transferring the detainees to other facilities if formal charges are filed.
The ongoing investigation centers on allegations of overpriced, substandard, and ghost flood control projects. The cited individuals remain under Senate custody while the committee continues its probe.
Lacson stressed the need for honesty and cooperation during Senate inquiries, noting that truthful testimonies are vital to preserving the integrity of legislative investigations.
The Senate has not yet disclosed a timeline for filing potential charges, and the Blue Ribbon Committee continues to review evidence and testimonies related to the flood control controversy.
