MANILA, Philippines — Actress Kylie Padilla clarified on Feb. 24 that her remark about leaving the Philippines if her father, Sen. Robin Padilla, runs for vice president in 2028 was not meant to insult him.
Kylie made the initial comment during a screening of her film “The Lotto Winner” when asked about Robin’s statement that he would run for higher office if former President Rodrigo Duterte personally asked him to do so. Duterte is detained in The Hague, Netherlands, in connection with charges of crimes against humanity over his anti-drug campaign. Vice President Sara Duterte has announced her intention to run for president in 2028.
When asked about her reaction, Kylie said while laughing that she would leave the country. She then added that she trusts her father’s judgment.
In Instagram Stories and a separate Facebook post, Kylie said she made the comment because she wants a quiet and peaceful life. She said she admires her father and asked the public not to use her statement against him.
Robin Padilla has not issued a public statement on the matter.
