MANILA, Philippines–Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III and his wife, Special Envoy Kathryna Yu-De Guzman Pimentel, are spearheading efforts to revive Marikina’s shoe industry, once an employment source for the city.

They attended the launch of “Marikina: Pamana ng Sapatos – Kahapon, Ngayon at Bukas” at Marikina Freedom Park on Tuesday.

First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos also participated in the event.

The public exhibit displayed products from local shoemakers, bag makers, and small businesses.

Senator Pimentel stated that the event aims to rekindle public interest in Marikina-made shoes.

He highlighted Marikina’s rich heritage in craftsmanship and quality.

Pimentel stressed that the exhibition should remind Filipinos of their city’s historical importance in the shoe industry.
