MANILA, Philippines – Kevin Quiambao emerged as one of the standout performers for Gilas Pilipinas during the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, delivering key performances that highlighted his development on the international stage.
The 22-year-old forward played a crucial role in the national team’s campaign, particularly in a quarterfinal matchup against Australia, where he led the team with 17 points, including 5-of-8 shooting from three-point range. Despite the team’s elimination in that round, Quiambao’s efforts drew praise from head coach Tim Cone.
Cone, who has consistently expressed confidence in Quiambao’s abilities, said the player’s showing during the tournament reflected the trust and expectations the coaching staff had in him.
“Kevin’s performance was not a surprise,” Cone stated. “He’s been working hard and we knew what he was capable of.”
Gilas Pilipinas faced challenges throughout the tournament and ultimately exited after falling to Australia in the knockout round. Cone, however, commended the team’s growth and stressed the importance of continued development, especially among its younger players.
Quiambao described the tournament as a valuable learning experience and expressed a desire to build on the lessons gained. He also reaffirmed his commitment to future national team campaigns.
The 2025 FIBA Asia Cup served as a platform for emerging talents, and Quiambao’s breakout performance has boosted his profile within the basketball community.
