KEMPNER, Texas — Kempner Volunteer Fire Department evacuated several RV parks and closed roads on Tuesday as the Lampasas River surged past 30 feet following heavy rains.
The department initiated evacuation orders when the river began overflowing low-lying areas. Lampasas Police Department assisted by relocating elderly residents near a local creek to safety.
Firefighters and officers also barricaded multiple roads and low-water crossings, redirecting traffic to prevent accidents in flood-prone zones. The National Weather Service had forecast severe flooding earlier in the week, prompting swift emergency responses.
Rainfall earlier in the week caused the river to rise rapidly, flooding campgrounds and access routes. Authorities issued evacuation notices and deployed teams to ensure organized exits from vulnerable locations.
Officials continue to monitor weather and river conditions, remaining on alert for further evacuation needs. Kempner city government and emergency services are coordinating road closures, shelter provisions, and public advisories.
