DALLAS, Texas–Students from Keller Independent School District (Keller ISD) recently gathered to protest a proposal that suggests dividing the district into separate areas.
Keller ISD, which serves a diverse student population in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, has seen differing opinions on the proposal.
Proponents argue that splitting the district could lead to more efficient administration and better-targeted resources for specific areas. However, opponents, including many students, believe the division could exacerbate existing disparities in educational resources, particularly along racial and economic lines.
One student, Anderson-Himmelspach, voiced concerns about the proposal, stating, “It is very clearly trying to divide our district along lines of race and class.”
The protests included students carrying signs and chanting messages in favor of unity, with many also using social media to organize and raise awareness of their views.
Community organizations and local advocacy groups have also expressed opposition to the proposal.
They argue that splitting the district could lead to disparities in access to educational opportunities and resources.
