Karl Eldrew Yulo takes 1st senior World Cup gold in Turkey

MANILA, Philippines — Karl Eldrew Yulo won his first senior-level gold medal on Saturday after topping the floor exercise at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series in Antalya, Turkey.

The 18-year-old Filipino gymnast scored 14.100 in the final, receiving 5.3 for difficulty and 8.8 for execution.

Eamon Montgomery of Ireland finished second with 13.833 to win the silver medal, while Rayderley Zapata of Spain placed third with 13.333 for the bronze.

Yulo, the younger brother of two-time Olympic champion Carlos Yulo, placed fourth in the qualification round before improving his performance in the final.

He previously competed in another leg of the World Cup series in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he also reached the finals in the floor exercise and horizontal bar events.
