MANILA, Philippines — Karl Eldrew Yulo moved closer to a podium finish at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan, after advancing to two apparatus finals on Friday.

Yulo secured spots in the horizontal bar and floor exercise finals following the preliminaries, according to the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP).

“Despite a minor setback in his vault and pommel horse events, the fire inside Eldrew Yulo still burned as he secured his finals spot in the horizontal bar event,” GAP said on Facebook. “With two event finals in his hands, let’s all pray for a safe and successful run for our budding champion.”

In the preliminaries, Yulo placed sixth in the horizontal bar with a score of 13.533, while Chinese Taipei’s Tang Chia-hung led with 14.800. He also finished fourth in the floor exercise with a 13.800, just behind Kazakhstan’s Milad Karimi, who scored 14.433.

Yulo will compete in the floor exercise final on Saturday and the horizontal bar final on Sunday.
