MANILA, Philippines– Kanlaon Volcano, situated on Negros Island, erupted at 2:55 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The eruption at the summit crater was classified as “moderately explosive.”

Phivolcs reported that the eruption produced a grayish voluminous plume, which rose approximately three kilometers above the volcanic vent. The event prompted the emission of thin ashfall affecting various localities in Negros Occidental.

The areas experiencing ashfall included La Carlota City’s Barangays of Cubay, San Miguel, Yubo, and Ara-al. In Bago City, ashfall was observed in Barangays Ilijan and Binubuhan. Additionally, La Castellana was affected in Barangays Biak-na-Bato, Sag-ang, and Mansalanao.

Residents in Barangay Pula, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, and La Castellana reported audible rumbling sounds associated with the eruption.

Kanlaon Volcano is known for its frequent volcanic activity, and Phivolcs continues to monitor its condition closely.
