SAN ANTONIO, Texas–A San Antonio man has been found guilty of the 2017 murder of his wife after a trial that examined evidence and testimonies related to the case.

Elizabeth Sierra Contreras’s body was found in a field on the southern side of San Antonio on August 8, 2017, and her death was ruled a homicide.

Law enforcement officials’ investigation revealed suspicion of her husband Guadalupe Contreras due to his behavior in the days after her disappearance. He was taken into custody a week after the body was found.

During the trial in a Houston courtroom, the prosecution presented forensic evidence, mobile phone records, and witness testimonies, painting a picture of a troubled relationship.

The defense argued that there were no direct witnesses to the crime and questioned the reliability of some evidence.

However, the jury sided with the prosecution, finding the defendant guilty.
