HOUSTON, Texas–Houston Mayor John Whitmire faces backlash from Harris County Democratic Party officials for attending a fundraiser for Republican U.S. Representative Dan Crenshaw in Houston.

Thirty precinct chairs signed a formal admonishment condemning Whitmire’s actions, arguing that they undermine Democratic Party values and calling for the party to deny endorsements to Whitmire in future elections.

Critics claim Whitmire’s participation in a Republican event is a betrayal of Democratic principles.

A spokesperson for Whitmire defended his decision, emphasizing his commitment to bipartisan collaboration on issues like flood mitigation and affordable housing.

Local Democratic officials are advocating for rule changes to prevent Democratic candidates from supporting Republican events.
