2-time NCAA champion Jimly Lantaya of Letran passes away at 24

Jimly Lantaya, a two-time NCAA men’s basketball champion, died on Saturday in Manila, Philippines. The former Letran Knight was 24 years old. Lantaya contributed to the Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s victories during NCAA Seasons 97 and 98.

The Letran community expressed its condolences to the Lantaya family and recognized Jimly’s dedication and contributions to the school. In a statement, Letran thanked Lantaya for bringing honor to the institution.

In addition to his achievements with Letran, Lantaya was remembered for his commitment to the team and the community. The institution’s message included a prayer for his eternal rest and peace.

Jimly Lantaya’s passing follows the recent death of another young athlete, Ashlyn Abong, noted for her participation in Gilas Girls and as an NU standout, who died at 18.

The cause of Lantaya’s death was not disclosed publicly.
