A Japanese independent administrative agency has issued a warning regarding fire risks from devices using lithium-ion batteries, such as portable chargers and handheld fans.
The National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) conducted a survey revealing an increase in accidents involving these devices, reporting a total of 1,860 incidents from 2020 to 2024.
Fire-related accidents accounted for 85% of these cases.
Lithium-ion batteries are susceptible to heat and impact, increasing the likelihood of accidents during warmer periods.
The agency found that August had the highest number of reported accidents, with 228 cases in the five-year span.
