MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has received some volleyball equipment as support from the Japan Volleyball Association (JVA) to enhance its grassroots volleyball programs.
A ceremony marking the handover of volleyball equipment took place at the newly established PNVF Office in Taguig City.
Japan’s Minister and Consul General, Takahiro Hanada, attended the event, alongside prominent Filipino players from Alas Pilipinas, including Thea Gagate, Dawn Catindig, Vince Lorenzo, and EJ Casaña.
PNVF President Tats Suzara emphasized the importance of the donation, which includes volleyballs and other equipment that will be distributed across Mindanao, Visayas, and Luzon. The initiative aims to inspire young players in these regions and provide a foundation to nurture future talent.
The collaboration between Japan and the Philippines extends beyond equipment donations.
Hanada highlighted the countries’ shared passion for volleyball and announced plans to work together on coaching, national team training camps, and sports management.
He also pointed out the presence of Filipino players in Japanese professional volleyball leagues, showcasing the mutual benefits of this partnership.
The event also introduced the new PNVF Office, which will serve as the headquarters for the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship.
The office will also house the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) President’s office, further solidifying the Philippines’ commitment to hosting the international championship.
Suzara expressed gratitude for the ongoing support and additional resources such as nets and poles.
Alas Pilipinas player Dawn Catindig noted the importance of international support for players from less fortunate schools in the provinces.
The equipment donation, she said, would inspire young athletes to believe that their dreams of playing professionally are within reach.
