MANILA, Philippines– Ako Bicol party-list Representative Zaldy Co resigned from his post on Sept. 29, following an ultimatum from authorities amid an ongoing investigation into a P289.5-million flood control project in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

Co submitted his resignation through a letter addressed to House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III. His staff publicly released the letter on his social media page.

The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) had earlier submitted its first interim report to the Office of the Ombudsman. The 32-page report flagged issues related to the Oriental Mindoro flood control project and recommended the filing of charges against Co and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

According to the ICI, the investigation focused on potential mismanagement and irregularities in the use of public funds allocated to the project. The commission’s report emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in infrastructure spending.

Acting Ombudsman Dante F. Vargas received the report, which is now under review for further legal action.

The House of Representatives confirmed receipt of Co’s resignation and announced plans to assess the impact of his departure on ongoing inquiries and legislative work. The chamber will also determine the next steps for Ako Bicol’s representation in accordance with House procedures.
