Indonesia’s Health Ministry has issued a warning to healthcare facilities to remain alert and strengthen Covid-19 surveillance following an uptick in cases across various Asian countries.

The rise is attributed to a more transmissible Omicron sub-variant.

On June 3, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin met with President Prabowo Subianto to discuss the increasing Covid-19 cases in the region. Minister Sadikin emphasized that although cases are rising, the variants involved are considered less deadly.

The Health Ministry had already circulated an advisory last week to prepare healthcare institutions for the evolving situation.
