India attacks Pakistani targets; Islamabad threatens counteraction

India launched missile strikes on Wednesday targeting locations in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. According to the Indian government, the strikes hit nine sites identified as camps linked to armed groups.

The action follows a recent attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, which Indian authorities attribute to elements based in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, stated that three civilians were injured. Pakistani sources reported that at least five areas were affected. Pakistan has announced plans to respond and has increased its military readiness.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs described the strikes as necessary, while the Indian military has not commented on the possibility of additional operations.

The incident adds to ongoing conflict over Kashmir, a region claimed by both countries. India and Pakistan have fought multiple wars and regularly exchange fire along the Line of Control.

Both countries possess nuclear weapons, and the situation has drawn attention from international observers. Diplomatic efforts have previously focused on reducing hostilities and encouraging dialogue.

Pakistan has raised the issue with international forums and denied involvement in supporting armed groups operating in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Security has been tightened on both sides of the border following the strikes. Monitoring of the situation continues from governments and organizations around the world.
