The International Criminal Court (ICC) has reportedly issued an arrest warrant for Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa over his role in the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed the development, noting the legal implications of the warrant. Dela Rosa, former chief of the Philippine National Police, was a key figure in implementing anti-drug operations that have drawn international criticism for alleged human rights violations.
The ICC began investigating alleged crimes against humanity linked to Duterte’s drug campaign in 2018. While the Philippine government has withdrawn from the ICC and rejected its jurisdiction, officials say they remain committed to protecting national sovereignty.
