HOUSTON, Texas — Forecasters said warm and mostly dry conditions will continue across the Houston area through the weekend, with temperatures expected to climb into the upper 80s and a slight chance of rain.
Meteorologists said Saturday highs will reach the upper 80s, with heat index values above 90 under partly cloudy skies and a 10% chance of rain. They said similar conditions are expected Sunday, with increased cloud cover and highs in the mid-80s.
The forecast indicated that temperatures remain close to seasonal peaks, with the sun intensity comparable to late summer conditions, increasing the risk of sunburn with prolonged outdoor exposure.
Forecasters said Houston typically reaches its first 90-degree day in early May and noted that temperatures next week could reach that threshold earlier than usual.
A cool front is expected late next week, approaching the region around Wednesday and Thursday before moving through by Friday. Meteorologists said the system could bring showers and thunderstorms.
Behind the front, forecasters said temperatures may drop into the 50s overnight and rise into the 70s during the day, creating cooler conditions for the first weekend of May.
Officials said the potential for severe weather cannot yet be determined due to the distance in time, and they will continue to monitor the system as it develops.
