HOUSTON, Texas– Houston Independent School District Superintendent Mike Miles outlined budget priorities for the 2025-26 school year during a recent board meeting in Houston.
The district plans an investment of $40 million to address health and safety needs, as part of eight key actions proposed by Miles.
The budget also includes the addition of 800 new Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 seats to expand early childhood education.
A new teacher evaluation and compensation system is set to be implemented as part of the district’s reform strategy.
The proposed budget totals approximately $2.1 billion, reflecting a budgetary deficit of around $33 million.
Miles emphasized actions aimed at improving student outcomes, including special education compliance and transportation systems.
