HOUSTON — Houston police arrested a suspect after a home invasion in Montrose that investigators said may have stemmed from a meeting on a dating app, according to the Houston Police Department.
Police said four people were inside a home near West Alabama and Brandt streets when the suspect forced entry and threatened the occupants. Officers with patrol and K-9 units responded and took the suspect into custody. Authorities said no injuries were reported.
Investigators said the suspect had previously met one of the residents through a dating application before later showing up at the home unannounced.
Police have not released the identity of the suspect or filed formal charges as of this report.
A domestic violence advocate urged caution when meeting people through online platforms following the incident.
Martine Desmolieres, founder of Going Out Divine, said users should watch for early warning signs during online interactions.
She cited rushing intimacy, excessive personal disclosures, and controlling behavior framed as concern as potential red flags.
Desmolieres also advised users to conduct video calls before meeting in person and to inform friends or family of planned meetups with new contacts.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
