HOUSTON, Texas– The Houston NAACP chapter called for the removal of Humble ISD Superintendent Roger Brown following his controversial comment about “lynching the mayor”.
The incident became public during a Humble Independent School District board meeting last week when a district employee addressed the issue during the public comment period.
Brown, who assumed the role of superintendent in January, allegedly made the comment during a leadership meeting in March while referring to the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.
Brown publicly apologized at a recent district board meeting, explaining his comments were made out of frustration over prolonged power outages after the hurricane.
The NAACP hosted a town hall in Houston, where multiple Black community leaders demanded Brown’s resignation.
The comments by Brown have sparked significant backlash from community leaders and stakeholders in the district.
Humble ISD has initiated an investigation into the incident concerning the superintendent’s remarks.
Brown’s statements reportedly targeted the mayor and energy provider CenterPoint amid frustrations with recovery efforts post-hurricane.
The Humble ISD board is deliberating on the appropriate course of action regarding Brown’s future with the district.
Houston NAACP President met with the school board to discuss possible outcomes following the public uproar.
