HOUSTON — The Filipino American community in Houston marked Filipino American History Month with a public celebration at POST Houston, drawing families, performers and local vendors for a day of food, music and cultural programming.
The event included live performances, community activities and a marketplace featuring Filipino food and goods. One of the highlights was a special showcase of the “Halo-Halo Shot” collaboration of NUMP and Baby Bash, produced by Houston’s Bruce Bang. The program also featured a tribute to the late Young Melvin, with guest performers participating in his honor.
Organizers said the celebration brought together long-time residents, youth groups and cultural organizations in a free, family-friendly program intended to spotlight the history and continued presence of Filipino Americans in the city.
Filipino American History Month is celebrated nationwide every October to honor the contributions and cultural heritage of Filipino Americans in the United States.
