Houston ISD is partnering with local faith leaders and law enforcement agencies to launch “Project Safe Start Summer,” an initiative aimed at supporting student safety and well-being during the summer break, district officials said.
Houston ISD leaders said the program is an extension of the district’s “Safe Start” back-to-school initiative and is designed to maintain community connections as students leave campus for the break.
The initiative brings together police agencies, faith-based groups, and community partners to promote safety education and provide access to summer resources and programs for students.
Officials said the program will focus on topics including water safety, online safety, gun safety, and responsible decision-making.
Houston ISD Police Chief Shamara D. Garner said the initiative emphasizes prevention and partnership and aims to assure students that their communities remain engaged in their safety and success beyond the school year.
Houston Police Department Assistant Chief Adrian Rodriguez said the effort reflects a proactive approach to safety for students during the summer months.
