LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles County grand jury is investigating Houston-born alt-pop singer d4vd in connection with the killing of a 14-year-old girl whose decomposed body was discovered last year inside a Tesla registered to him, according to court documents.
Prosecutors identified the 20-year-old singer, whose legal name is David Burke, as the target of the investigation in subpoenas issued Jan. 15 seeking testimony from three of his relatives. The documents state the target “may be involved” in one count of murder under California law.
The body of Celeste Rivas Hernandez was found Sept. 8 in a 2023 Tesla Model Y that had been towed from the Hollywood Hills. Authorities said the vehicle appeared abandoned. Court filings describe investigators discovering a cadaver bag in the vehicle’s front storage compartment containing a severely decomposed body. Additional remains were found in a second bag.
Hernandez, a seventh grader from Lake Elsinore, had been reported missing in 2024. Authorities list her as 14 at the time of her death. No cause of death has been publicly released.
Representatives for d4vd have not commented. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office declined to comment. A Texas judge ordered the singer’s mother, father, and brother to comply with subpoenas and testify in California.
Authorities have not publicly named d4vd as a suspect. The investigation remains ongoing.
