Cy-Fair Independent School District football player Jarvis Spires, 17, has made progress in his recovery after suffering heat stroke during a workout session.

Spires collapsed due to heat and dehydration, leading to heat stroke. He was hospitalized and placed in a medically induced coma for nine days to stabilize his condition. During treatment, doctors found internal bleeding that required surgery.

Currently, Spires is again in a medically induced coma while undergoing tests to monitor his health. His family remains hopeful about his recovery.

Heat stroke occurs when the body overheats from exposure to high temperatures or physical exertion. Symptoms include confusion, rapid heartbeat, and high body temperature, requiring immediate medical attention.

Spires, who aims to play in the NFL, plans to use his experience to raise awareness about heat stroke. His family and community have offered support during his recovery.

Athletic organizations are reviewing training protocols to improve safety, focusing on hydration, heat acclimatization, and medical readiness. Updates on his condition are awaited as he continues recovery.
