Houston community activists are pressing the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to reassess charges against Ronald Preston Gorham, a man accused of assaulting a Black woman.
The incident occurred following a minor traffic accident. A confrontation ensued after the woman reversed her vehicle into Gorham’s car, according to court documents.
Both drivers moved to a nearby gas station, where the situation escalated and was recorded on video. Activists claim Gorham used racial slurs against the woman, spat on her, and physically attacked her. Gorham currently faces an assault charge.
During a demonstration outside Gorham’s residence, activist Candice Matthews stated that the behavior exhibited was unacceptable. She emphasized that Black women are entitled to protection and respect.
A warrant for Gorham’s arrest has been issued. Inquiries were made to the district attorney’s office regarding whether hate crime charges would be pursued.
