HOUSTON — A high-speed crash late Sunday night resulted in the death of a man and left a woman seriously injured in northwest Houston. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Gessner and Tanner, near the Sam Houston Tollway and Highway 290.

Authorities reported that the driver, an unidentified man, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The car crossed the median and flipped several times. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters had to extricate a woman from the passenger seat. She was transported to a local trauma center and is in serious condition.

Houston police indicated that speed appears to be the sole factor in the crash, with no other vehicles involved. The investigation is ongoing as police continue to gather more information.
