Adonis Ramos Jr., a 16-year-old weightlifter, has achieved a remarkable victory in the 2024 Philippine Sports Commission Batang Pinoy Games held in Puerto Princesa City.

The young athlete secured the gold medal in the boys’ 17-under 55-kilogram weightlifting category, marking a significant improvement from his previous performance at the same event last year, where he finished with a bronze medal.

Ramos’s achievement is being celebrated as a significant step in his young career.

Under the guidance of Olympic weightlifting champion Hidilyn Diaz, Ramos has shown tremendous dedication and perseverance. His win is seen as a redemption story, following the challenges he faced in the previous year’s competition.

The Batang Pinoy Games is a national sports event organized by the Philippine Sports Commission, aimed at discovering and nurturing young talent in various sports disciplines.

Ramos’s triumph in the weightlifting event is seen as a testament to the effectiveness of the program in developing future sports champions.

In the 2023 edition of the Batang Pinoy Games, Ramos faced disappointment as he ended up in third place. The young athlete expressed his determination to improve his performance this year, and his hard work paid off with a gold medal. The victory has bolstered his confidence and has been a source of pride for his family and community.

Ramos’s success has also drawn attention to the role of Hidilyn Diaz as a mentor and coach. Diaz, who made history as the first Filipino to win an Olympic gold medal in weightlifting, has been actively involved in training young athletes in the Philippines. Her mentorship of Ramos has been highlighted as a key factor in his recent success.

The accomplishments of Ramos and other young athletes at the Batang Pinoy Games have been celebrated by various officials and stakeholders in the Philippines. The event is seen as a crucial platform for identifying and supporting the next generation of national sporting heroes.

Ramos’s victory in the 55-kilogram weightlifting category has been highlighted as one of the standout performances of the event. It underscores the promising future of weightlifting in the Philippines, with young athletes continuing to emerge as strong contenders on the national and international stage.
