MANILA, Philippines—Olympic weightlifting champion Hidilyn Diaz on Saturday encouraged Filipino junior gymnast Karl Eldrew Yulo not to quit after he missed the podium in the men’s all-around final of the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships at Newport World Resorts in Pasay City.

Diaz attended the all-around competition to support Yulo, who competed as part of the Philippine delegation in the global junior event sanctioned by the International Gymnastics Federation.

Diaz spoke to Yulo after the all-around final and told him to persevere despite the result and to continue working on his routines for future competitions.

Event organizers held the all-around final at the Newport Performing Arts Theater inside Newport World Resorts, which served as one of the main venues of the Junior World Championships.

Karl Eldrew Yulo, the younger brother of two-time world champion Carlos Yulo, represented the Philippines in multiple apparatus in the all-around program.

Diaz, who won the Philippines’ first Olympic gold medal in weightlifting at the Tokyo Games, watched from the stands and later met Yulo to give him words of support.
