HOUSTON, Texas — Harris County Commissioners Lesley Briones and Adrian Garcia unveiled new budget priorities focused on public safety, health services, and infrastructure development during a press conference held Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. outside the Commissioners Court in downtown Houston.

The announcement came shortly after the Harris County Commissioners Court voted to censure County Judge Lina Hidalgo for what three commissioners described as disruptive and disrespectful conduct during court proceedings. Both Briones and Garcia supported the censure but opposed removing Hidalgo from office.

The commissioners’ proposed budget emphasizes funding for disaster preparedness, road construction, and law enforcement initiatives, while maintaining a commitment to fiscal accountability. The priorities are part of a broader strategic plan to strengthen infrastructure, enhance emergency response systems, and expand access to health services across the county.

Briones and Garcia highlighted the importance of readiness for future disasters, investment in transportation infrastructure, and bolstering law enforcement capabilities to address community needs. They reiterated that the budget plan aligns with long-term county goals and the expectations of residents.
